Nintendo and The Pokémon Company Sue Pocketpair Over 'Palworld' Game
Nintendo and its partner, The Pokémon Company, have initiated legal action against Pocketpair Inc., the creators of the hit survival-adventure game Palworld, accusing them of patent infringement on September 18, 2024. This lawsuit, filed in Tokyo District Court, seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages claiming Palworld infringes multiple patent rights.

Is New Factory Better? Answer: It’s Dark
(Intro) Over the course of Tarkov’s life, since the game has been playable to the masses, we’ve gotten a good idea as to how many maps will be released when the game finally goes 1.0. As far as we know, the only map that has not made it into the game yet is terminal which if I had to take a guess, will release when Tarkov does eventually get to the 1.0 release date. In the meantime, BSG has made several attempts across all the Maps in the game to make them more cohesive expand them, and just make them feel better to play. From the underground in reserve to multiple expansions on customs, multiple times on both sides of the map to even completely changing the topography of how shoreline feels and making everything flow much nicer than what it was like before. And the most recent map to get this quality-of-life attention was factory and we’re not talking about just updating some parts of the map. No, we’re talking about a completely different map build from the ground up but it still feels like old factory. There are still the same points of interest, the same ebbs and flow in terms of how the map feels, and in general it should feel familiar. But there’s enough new going on that it’s worth having a conversation about and seeing how the community feels about it. Because there’s a good chance that this will be potentially the final update to any of the old maps we get before terminal gets added into the game.

This Change Might Be Huge for 5.45 AKs
(Intro) Many years ago, BSG added a weapon that was wildly underused because it lacked the attachments to make it competitive with other guns. The AK-101 and 102 were some of the least used weapons in the game for a long time. And then they got the love they needed. More muzzle attachments and an adapter to use 5.56 muzzles and suppressors immediately made those two guns viable and arguably some of the better rifles in the game. It always surprises me how much the muzzle on a weapon can drastically affect the stats of it. It’s one of the most important parts to making an effective rifle. So, it comes as a pleasant shock to me that the 5.45 AKs can now also use 5.56 muzzle devices too. This was something I wasn’t expecting; a crossover of calibers like that in this game seems really antithetical to the lore of the game. USECs versus BEAR. But in the spirit of having as much weapon customization possible, it makes perfect sense. There are just less AK muzzle devices than there are for an M4. Especially suppressors that don’t tank the ergonomics of the gun either. This change is small on the grand scheme of things; more options is always a good thing. But let’s discuss how impactful this change is, how much your options do open up, and why you should be taking advantage of this change as soon as you can.

You Probably Forgot This Was Added to Tarkov
(Intro) One of the smaller features that was added with patch 0.15, that most people probably skimmed over and forgot about, was the ability for weapons with bipods attached to them, to be deployed and actually used. For the first time in Tarkov’s history, there is not a reason to attach a bipod to a weapon that has one available to it. There aren’t that many in the game, but even still this is something that just gives those weapons with bipods a reason to use them. Additionally, there is a new bracing mechanic that has also been added into Tarkov that I totally forgot about until, I started writing for this video. With two new ways to reduce recoil I wanted to give them a test and see how practical they are, how much of a recoil reduction they provide, and whether or not these could be properly used in a real raid experience of Tarkov. This shouldn’t take too long, so let’s talk about weapon bipods and bracing being introduced into Tarkov.

When Sony released the Playstation console in the mid-90s, the industry had a shift in development priorities. Notably, Sony wanted new 3D games to be released for their system. Many studios, mostly produced 2D games on the consoles of the time while consumers demand for 3D landscape. Capcom wanted to reach audiences with their consistently successful Mega Man franchise. The need for a new 3D game led them to develop a whole new gameplay style, which resulted in Mega Man Legends.

Marathon Mode in Tarkov, But There’s a Huge Problem
If there is one component of Tarkov that I would want to see happen more than arguably anything else, is seeing either open world, partial open world or some form of map-to-map travel be in the game. We’ve had conversations in the past, I’ve listened to so many passionate players express how amazing that would be, and have personally even dabbled in trying to create a mock up version in the past showing how it might work in addition to some other ideas as well. There are plenty of players who would be thrilled to have the ability to travel from one map directly to another without going to their stash. And to my surprise, BSG with patch 0.15 added a mode that we can play right now that gives us a taste of what that might look like on the future should they go through with it. Marathon mode is their attempt at testing the waters for map-to-map travel; allowing players to experience what it would be like going to as many maps in a row as possible without returning to your stash to restock on ammo, medication, food, and other important items. It’s a very stark contrast to normal Tarkov; not being able to go back to your stash unless you absolutely have to is quite an interesting way of engaging with the game. You have to prepare much differently than you normally do, because a raid can reasonable take anywhere from 10-45 minutes, but with marathon you might be out of your stash for over an hour if not longer. So, what you need to take is very different. But let’s go over the details of marathon mode, how it works, the differences between the two modes of play, the downsides and potential problems with it, and what it might mean for Tarkov in the future.

Partizan, PMC Karma and the Connection Between the Two
The newest boss to be added into Tarkov, Partizan or as the community has aptly nicknamed him “Parmesan”, is a weird boss to say the least. His lore is probably the most unique out of all the other bosses and how he operates is also strange and not exactly understood. BSG has been tight lipped about exactly how he functions; only giving us vague answers in the past but confirming he, in some way, is directly tied to another hidden mechanic that was added in with patch 0.15, another karma system. Not PMC karma, not scav karma because we already have that. Just karma; what a wonderful new mechanic that is so easily understood by just that one word. We have been told numerous times that this was a matter of when and not if, and now that we finally have some version of it, we need to talk about how the community thinks it works, how it’s directly tied to Partizan, and how it might change in the future. As well as some other changes that also came with this update to help fill you in on where your own karma might be and whether or not Partizan is actively hunting for you right now. So, let’s talk about it.

How the 'Boktai' Series Lost Its Identity
One of my favorite video game series of all time is Boktai. Boktai is an action RPG series renowned for its solar sensor gimmick. However, out of the Boktai series, I only consider the original game Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand to be a classic. While I still enjoy the sequels, I believe they stray too far from the original to deliver a satisfying follow-up. More specifically, the sequels to Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand lack the stealth and personalization of the original.

Let’s Talk About Tripwires in Tarkov
Probably one of the more controversial additions into the game, Tarkov has just added placeable tripwires attached to grenades. This was something I thought only the new boss, Partizan was going to be able to do, but it looks like BSG wants us to die in even more mysterious and convoluted ways. The feelings I experienced while watching the patch 0.15 trailer and seeing the tripwires in action gave me very similar feelings to when we first saw the different types of grenade launchers being added into the game. And while those were initially cause for concern because of how powerful explosive ordinance in a game like Tarkov can be, in reality, you might be in the same raid with a GL every thousand raids or so. It’s not common and BSG has taken steps to make sure they aren’t seen that much. They’ve even dialed it back more overtime. Which gave me a little reassurance that these things wouldn’t break the game or become the new meta. And surprisingly, they aren’t as bad as I thought. Scary for sure, knowing they just exist now, and hearing that new sound when you step over one is a recipe for pure panic, but they don’t break the game. Much to the chagrin of some, perhaps. But today, I wanted to talk about tripwires in general; how they are acquired, how to use them, how powerful they actually are, and what this means for Tarkov going forward.

My favorite video games growing up were portable games, typically RPGs that emphasized multiplayer. Most of these RPGs were part of an effort to create a transmedia franchise aimed at children. I often refer to them as hobby games because of their prominence in hobby manga magazines like CoroCoro Comic, Comic BomBom, and V Jump. For example, CoroCoro Comic has featured many video game franchises, including Pokémon and Mega Man Battle Network. Hobby manga magazines promote these games with articles and manga like Pokémon Adventures. However, hobby games aren't simply prominent games in hobby manga magazines but ones that embody three distinct qualities.

Tarkov's Arena Mode is Fun Again
Okay, I know about a month ago, I made a video talking about how Arena was pretty much dead in the water, and that the future of it was hanging in the balance of how BSG handles the 2.0 update. And to my surprise and delight, they delivered. Simply put, Arena is fun again. In fact, it’s more fun than it was when they initially released it. So many problem points that we had with it, are gone or at the very least significantly better than they were previously. The new custom presets, the integration of Ref and the linking of your Tarkov account; it all feels like how this game should’ve launched the first time. Because if it did, I can honestly see their vision of Arena being this bigger E-sport becoming a reality. Sadly, I think that ship has sailed a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean Arena still can’t be enjoyed both alongside regular Tarkov, and by itself. So, let’s go over what’s new with Arena and why it’s so much better.
