Final Fantasy XIV Online 7.1 Update: Long-Awaited Feature Finally Arrives!
If you’ve played Final Fantasy XIV Online for any amount of time, you’re likely all too familiar with the Crystal Alliance raid series — and by too familiar, I mean you’ve spent tens if not hundreds of hours doing those three raids. The age-old frustration of doing Duty Roulettes for experience and, once again, getting dropped into Labyrinth of the Ancients or World of Darkness. Luckily, you’ll have some way to use all that experience very soon, as Final Fantasy XIV Online’s 7.1 update will bring a much-requested feature: alliance raids with increased difficulty.

Arena's Least Played Map is.... and Why?
(Intro) If you had to guess what the least played map in Tarkov’s arena mode was, which map would you say it was? Spoiler alert: it’s Sawmill. It’s always been Sawmill. Ever since we got the first version of the game available to the public. This map, while interesting in its own unique ways, doesn’t really jive with the purpose of arena existing. It meets somewhere in the middle between a small battle arena, and a chunk of a normal Tarkov map ripped out of the game. Because technically, it kind of is. It’s a chunk of Woods taken and modified to be an arena map. Which isn’t a bad thing, the concept and execution are both solid. But when you are at the map selection screen, you are most likely not selecting Sawmill to be in your map rotation. So why? What’s the reason(s) that people don’t play this map? Is it bad? Does it not make sense to be in arena? And can you even play the map this deep into arena’s life?

Tarkov Just Integrated Marathon into the Normal Game
(Intro) With the rollout of patch 0.15, one of the new mechanics that was added into the game was marathon mode; an interesting way to play Tarkov where the ability to travel to locations without going back to the stash is the main reason to try it. We don’t know how popular the mode was, or how many players interacted with it, but the few times I messed around with it, I found marathon mode to be an incredibly more interesting and immersive experience over the traditional Tarkov formula. It was a great shake-up to what we know; you had to think about so much more. Did you bring enough ammo to supply yourself for multiple maps? Do you have food and water in case you don’t find any? Is you armor going to withstand potentially multiple encounters with AI and other players? If you went into marathon mode, sure you could back out at any time and take a normal extract out, but many want to challenge themselves by either extracting from each map without dying, or starting with nothing and seeing how far you could take it. Overall, I would say the reception to the mode was positive, and the community generally welcomed the additional mode of play. What they’ve done recently in a smaller update, is remove the marathon mode, but inject it directly into the normal mode of Tarkov play. Now, anyone at any time can use the transit points to get from one map to another. And there’s more of them! But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. They made map to map travel actually possible in normal Tarkov, and I am very excited to start using it going forward.

Why Does it Feel Like Tarkov Throttles Quest Items?
(Intro) Has anyone else experienced this in Tarkov, where you get a quest to find some items in raid; nothing that is normally seen as rare like bitcoins or graphics cards. Could be something like Signal – Part 2 from Mechanic, and you’re looking for the rechargeable batteries, but raid after raid you keep looking in locations and loot containers that usually spawn them and they aren’t there? For years now, there has been this waft in the air that for some reason when you need certain items for a quest that need to be found in raid, the game refuses to spawn those items for one reason or another. This will be mainly coming from experience of playing the game overtime instead of any anecdotal evidence because I imagine it would be difficult to accurately collect data to back up this idea. But to me, and others who are in the community, for some reason Tarkov will throttle items you need for quests whenever you accept them and need to have them found in raid. With other quests that require you to find a static item on a map it doesn’t really apply, and for quests that don’t need found in raid status, well that’s easy enough. But even as early on as finding salewa’s or worse, gas analyzers, those can sometimes feel like you’ll hit level fifteen and unlock the flea market before those get done. Again, this is bro science from me, but please if what I am saying resonates with you and your immediate thought is this has happened to me before as well, sound off in the comments because I can’t be the only one.

Let’s get one thing square right off the bat: Tarkov’s economy will never be balanced. With the flea market simply existing in the game regardless of how it works, if players can buy and sell goods from one another, then the game’s entire economy can be boiled down to simple supply and demand. What do people want and how much are they willing to pay for it. Even with saying that however, I think it’s important to take a look at what Tarkov’s economy currently looks like, because this patch has had some major implications with how people accrue money in this game. No more found in raid flea, earning money in Arena, and being able to transfer it to the main game and vice versa, how players earn their income has been challenged completely. And to be brutally honest, it’s never been easier to earn money in this game. But why? What about the changes to arena make it so compelling for players to engage with it and then move funds over to normal Tarkov? Is the economy better or worse because of these changes? And will Tarkov ever nail this system down before or even after 1.0? Let’s answer all of these questions and more.
