Is Tarkov Truly Pay-to-Win?
(Intro) Is Tarkov pay to win? It’s a question that’s been asked for many years now, with a lot of heated conversations going back and forth on the matter. For those that think it is, they look to the different versions of the game being sold and how with all the extra stuff that is tacked on for simply paying more, it means you have a distinct advantage from those who pay for the base game. And there are those who look at this question a little deeper; beyond just the starting gear, seeing what else these more expensive versions offer to players and how much of an actual advantage does it give provide. And both sides make very strong arguments for the question being answered in either direction. Today, I wanted to take a crack at the question; look at the game, the different versions offered, and all the mechanics associated to try and come to some form of a resolution. At the end of the day, EFT is just a game. It is an online game, so for some, these kinds of conversations are important to figure out what version they might want to purchase if they are new and unsure where to start.

Prestige in Tarkov is WILD
(Into) Prestige has been added into EFT and the means to get there are kind of wild. The idea itself has been floated around by the community for a long time. Something to allow players endless amount of replay value while still earning something should you go the distance and not only reset your character back to level one but take on the Herculean task of completing all the quests, getting the kappa container, and meeting the other requirements to unlock prestige. There are only two levels of prestige currently in the game, but BSG plans to add a total of ten levels by the time EFT reaches a state for a 1.0 release. The idea itself always sounded enticing; there is a large community of people within Tarkov that truly do enjoy the grind. Playing the game for tons of hours to unlock everything they possibly can, level up as high as possible, and now after patch 0.16, prestige as many times as they can before the game wipes once more. And its implementation was relatively straight forward. Again, one of the few new features that has been added to Tarkov that simply just works, which is refreshing to see. So today, I wanted to go over the prestige system in Tarkov, what it takes to get there, compare it to other games and ask the questions of why do people prestige and is it even worth doing at all.

You’re Are Not Alone in Your Tarkov Experiences
(Intro) Tarkov is not an easy game to learn, play, or even experience in 2025. New players in this game feel like a dime a dozen these days. But to my surprise, I tend to see a lot of new players asking questions on the subreddit; trying to figure out the basic mechanics, why certain things about the game do or don’t work. And to their credit, most of them are leaps and bounds ahead of where I was when I started playing. But even veterans of the game; people who have put thousands of hours into the game, we all still run into problems and circumstances that are out of our direct control. And as annoying, frustrating, mald-enducing it can be to play this game and ask almost eight years into development if it will ever get better, there is one silver lining to those of us that still play the game and can find some levels of enjoyment out of it: if something happens to you in or out of raid, just know you are not alone. We have all dealt with the BS that BSG puts us through from time to time. And I can’t speak for anyone else other than myself, but there is a certain level of comfort in knowing that all the issues bugs glitches crashes and the like are experienced by the community at large. As much as we would all love to not even have to deal with them, this is the reality we are currently in. So, the next time you get upset at Tarkov for doing everything you don’t want it to, just know that we all go through the same thing, together at one point or another. I figured it would be interesting to go over some circumstances in the game that had the community calling them at one point getting “Tarkov’d”, and allowing people to hopefully share their experiences with each other so we can all collectively laugh at how ridiculous this game can be sometimes.

Loot Drop Off Zones in Tarkov – The Missing Ingredient
(Intro) Tarkov does a lot right when it comes to making sure the risk factor of your equipment is high as you enter a raid. Even if you’ve never played, if anyone has ever described the game to you, one mechanic that is always mentioned is that if you taken out by another PMC or AI, you lose your gear. It adds a layer of stress and the constant need to double and triple check your surroundings so that you don’t get ambushed. But what if there was a way to offload items you find in your raids? Those being things spawned into the raid itself, or any gear that was from another player. And not only that, but being able to offload loot and stay in that current raid. It’s an idea that has floated around the community for a long time; I believe many refer to it as “infill”. Where essentially there is a location that allows you to drop a bunch of loot off, whether it’s in a backpack or not, have it sent to your stash but you stay in the raid and continue doing whatever you want to do. It’s not an actual mechanic, but enough has been said about it that a conversation about how this mechanic might work is interesting to me. So today, we’ll be going over theoretical loot drop off points in Tarkov, how they would function, the kinds of locations you’d find them, the drawbacks of adding something like this, and everything in between.

Does Tarkov’s BTR Bring Any Value into the Game?
(Intro) The BTR is one of Tarkov’s most ambitious mechanics to ever be added into the game. Released with patch 0.14 which dropped in December of 2023, the BTR is a self-driving armored vehicle that moves around certain locations that you can enter to either take cover, pay to have items sent to your stash, move you to another part of the map, or to provide covering fire. This whole thing feels like something the modding community for this game would do. And while they have added some impressive mechanics into that version of EFT, for now, we just have the BTR. It’s size imposing for a single soldier, the ability to basically one-shot you with its turret means being in the wrong place at the wrong time can spell immediate doom for your raid. And while the mechanic itself is incredibly interesting, and I can’t imagine how challenging it was to get it added into the game, it also leaves a lot to be desired when you look at it a little deeper. The inaccessibility of it across the entire game, combined with how players can usually just walk past without really acknowledging it, the novelty of the BTR being in the game quickly goes away after seeing it the first couple of times. So today, I wanted to go over the BTR, the mechanics and services it provides, how they could maybe be either improved upon or expanded to see if this mechanic brings any real value into the game. And more importantly, will BSG ever expand on the BTR to give it more functionality.
