The New Age of the Gods
Aphrodite was queen bitch of the popular girls. In fact, she defined what it was to be a popular girl. Whereas Nike was popular and kind, Aphrodite was just plain popular and got that way by stepping on other kids' heads. She didn't care who she had to do it to to stay ahead. She even dated Ares, the quintessential popular boy, in that he was a jock, quarterback of the football team, and naturally exuded that confidence that only popular kids did.

Norse Mythology
I’m not sure how many people know or don’t know about Norse mythology, but I thought I’d state it myself. I tend to identify with Brunnhilde because she was a fighter for honor and love of family. She was also an example that women could fight too, and in an early belief system. While the Viking men went out and fought, the women would guard the homes. I thought I would look up more information about the Vikings’ belief system before they switched to Christianity.

Rihanon
I met William when I was still Rihanon (half-French, half-Scottish). I didn't have to go under the name Morran, meaning “great one.” I always got a sense that I wanted to be there for him. He was wild-eyed and wild-haired. He seemed to need someone to calm him down from this warlike wild zeal he’d get in his eyes, like he was daring danger to take him further. He wanted to test his danger limits. I think he wondered if he had any.

Another Side to the Story
That tart, Guinevere. Her friends called her Gwen. I don’t see how she was a Gwen, or a Gwynne for that matter. I wound up bearing a child that no woman should because I wound up under my own brother at a masquerade party. There were no contraceptives then. There were no abortions either. Morgaine, Morgana and I tolerated the little weasel until he was old enough to be on his own and then threw his lot in with that little Wiccan. We were Pagan, thank you.

A Pagan's Inquisition
Our town was Pagan, and consisted of gypsies and other groups of nomads. My name was Yndira. I was half-French and half-Indian (my mom was white enough and knew French) and a redhead. Our town was in France, but close to the border with England. There was a city there that ruled our town. The guards they sent were cold and unwelcome. They wore red and yellow tabards with Crusaders’ crosses on them, which meant they were sent by their bishops. They had armor under their tabards and carried spears. I certainly never welcomed them.

Imperfect
So, the football game was on last night. It was one my father just had to watch with the TVs on full blast (that’s right, two of them). His hearing’s bad and he refuses to wear a hearing aid, even one of those subtle ones that are flesh-colored. I closed the door to the office I was working in and managed to sneak my dinner in there too. One of the rules of the apartment is not to eat in the office, but I made an exception for myself since he was blasting the volume on the two TVs and I didn’t want the headache I’d surely get if I went out there to eat or if I left the door open.

Organic Love (Continued)
A grin that makes me want to sit on it. He has one for when he’s making people laugh at something twisted, one for when he’s in the mood, the proud daddy smile that makes me want to hug him, the touched by love smile, the “she likes me” grin. He’s like a Leonard Hofstadter in being shy and making me make the first move. I don’t have that kind of confidence. I’m still the girl, at least I like being that, in making the first move. I like wearing the skirt in that.
