a little limerick about last night
My dear Claudia skipped Paddy’s night.
Still I danced in shamrock-lit light.
I sipped Irish mules,
took pics laughing like fools,
and texted “you’re replaced” to spite.

When I was six or seven, my stepdad came into my life, and I remember thinking he knew everything. He could befriend anybody, anywhere. In grocery stores, he chatted with strangers over cuts of meat; at gas stations, he bonded with people pumping fuel over how the smell of gasoline was disgusting and yet enjoyable. In restaurants, he took an interest in waiters’ lives—like Steve, whose father was dying of cancer. When Steve’s dad died, my new dad attended the funeral.

The Friendship Recession: Why Adults Are Struggling To Build Close Relationships
This is a universal phenomenon that is affecting both individual and collective psyches. Humans thrive on companionship. The pandemic is solely to blame, however that particular far from auspicious time is not really to blame. The no-friends-trend-turned-friendship-recession, bringing forth the loneliness epidemic was a thing before 2020.
