A Serious Conversation About Cheating in Tarkov
(Intro) Cheating in Tarkov is not a new conversation or concept. It’s around. It happens; a lot. Too much for anyone playing the game. People either like to rant about the problem, or not mention it exists. Sadly, we live in a day and age where most popular games of any size, genre or cost have people who want to not only ruin it for the regular players, but profit from it too. And Tarkov is no exception to that rule. There have been different arcs in EFT’s life when it comes to cheating. And as the game grew in scale, ambition, and popularity, so too did the people trying to ruin the fun for everyone. I’ve personally only ever mentioned cheating in video one time, and it wasn’t formal like this is going to be. It was more personal experience and off-hand remarks. But now, after playing this wipe for about three weeks, strictly speaking only for myself, I have had more blatant instances of cheating in 2025 than I ever have playing the game. Emphasis on blatant; I’m sure there were plenty of times where I died to someone who wasn’t a legitimate player, but didn’t have the knowledge to know sure. But now we have more in-game tools to assist in figuring out if someone’s account looks suspicious or not. Regardless, cheating in games, sucks. Cheating in Tarkov sucks. It’s gotten very rotten over the years, and I am fearful that it will only get worse. Today’s video honestly, doesn’t have a specific goal or message behind it. It’s just to have a conversation about something we all hate and would Thanos snap out of existence if we could. Because cheating in games is awful, but cheating in Tarkov is a different kind of beast.

Evil from the Deeps
The fishing village of Hillshire has been tormented by pirates hiding in caves nearby for decades. The pirates have looted the village, stealing horses, food, and money from homes. They even dared to desecrate the temple at the centre of the village, stealing idols of the gods of the sea. In the past, the villagers have always been able to fight off the petty raids and get back some of what was stolen from the raiders. But now they had done something unthinkable, using strange magic to lure away what the villagers valued the most, their children. The villagers are afraid to assault the caves, fearing that the pirates will murder their hostages. The parents of a score of lost children have put out a call for heroes to raid the caves along the coast and rescue the captives. The weeping parents have little gold, but will offer whatever they have to get their precious children back, and promise that the heroes will find plenty of loot in the lair of the pirates. The villagers have also drawn pictures of their lost children so they can be recognised and will show them to anyone who offers to help find them.

The Cult of the Scale
King Vanaligan has put out a call for heroes and town criers are out spreading the word. His daughter, the beautiful and kindly Princess Brisentynne, has been kidnapped by a cult of dragon-worshipping snake people. Members of the cult, bald, tattooed figures in dark robes wielding magic, were seen dragging the girl off when she was picking flowers in a meadow near the royal castle. The princess, a lady-in-waiting, and a bodyguard are now missing and feared dead. Tracks followed by searchers looking for the young princess were found to lead to a dark cave with a villainous reputation as an abode of bandits and strange monsters.

Tarkov’s Recoil Got Reworked (Again), and It Feels...
(Intro) So Tarkov’s weapon recoil did in fact see some changes with patch 0.16. And while the community as a whole myself included were hesitant on any changes to the system after it had been unanimously praised by players after its first major overhaul, BSG assured us that this round of adjustments were to try and make the recoil visually look more accurate to firing weapons proper. Whether or not they succeeded in that front I’ll leave up to experienced users of firearms, but the main concern from most people was whether or not the recoil was going to feel worse after these changes. And to be brutally honest, I can’t tell if the changes in totality are better or worse. I mean, it’s not terrible by any means, and in some instances it looks more interesting while still being easily controllable, but it definitely feels different at the very least. So, was this second go around at changing Tarkov’s recoil worth it? Let’s talk about it.

However, I have rarely had this issue with turn-based strategy video games and deck-building card games. My problems with some turn-based RPGs don't originate from turn-based combat but instead from their battle systems and enemy encounters.

Tarkov’s New Secret Extracts aren’t Executed Equally
(Intro) One of the additions to Tarkov that I can’t remember being mentioned by BSG prior to their introduction, was having extra secret extractions around the map that were not readily available to you and your party unless you did something to gain the knowledge of their existence. On paper, this is a great idea; while you are passively playing out your raids, you might just so happen to stumble across whatever information is necessary to gain a bonus extraction much closer to your current location. It’s an incentive to exploring, looting and leaving no stone unturned. But that’s only on paper. What we got in reality is something close to that effect, but with the classic BSG so close yet so far stamp of approval. So, what do these hidden extractions do right? What about them misses the mark? What needs to happen to fix them? And what’s the current state of Tarkov’s extractions as a whole?

Tarkov Needs an "Operation Health" to Survive
(Intro) The general consensus around patch 0.16 is that the additions and changes, combined with the winter event and bringing back the snow alongside tons of snow camo for gear has been awesome. But that’s only speaking for the contents of the patch. The actual wipe and how the experience has been, is something else entirely. From my perspective, how the performance of the game has been, alongside any crashes, glitches, bugs, network problems; I don’t think the game has run this poorly since patch 0.12 and the addition of Reserve into the game. It’s just a complete sloppy, choppy, framey mess that just gets worse the longer you play it. Granted, the game hasn’t gone down once so far which is great, but the general performance is been awful. Maps that were totally fine previously, have issues with even just a red dot on your gun. And I haven’t even tried Streets because I’m worried my PC might explode if I do. I’m aware BSG right before the wipe happened said their main priority for 2025 is quality of life changes and optimizations, but I cannot stress how much the latter half of that sentence needs to occur. Tarkov needs an operation health series of patches to smooth things out. And while it’s honestly needed this for many years, this might be the worst it’s ever actually gotten.

Tarkov’s Hideout Changes Might’ve Ruined It, Unless…
(Intro) So, alongside the huge changes to Tarkov’s flea market, there was another line immediately after that also gave me whiplash upon reading it. Something I have feared for honestly years. As integral as the flea market has been since it was introduced, it doesn’t hold a candle to how vital using the hideout has become in our day-to-day Tarkov operations. These two-game mechanics go hand in hand. Need something for your hideout? Check out how much it costs on the flea. To me, the hideout is synonymous with buying the last couple items for a module upgrade because you’re either too lazy to look for it, or because the item basically doesn’t spawn. However, those days are going to be gone sadly. Because now, your hideout items need to be found in raid in order to count towards a module upgrade.
