Alice in the Afterworld

When the light took me

By Salif SagnaPublished about 5 hours ago 2 min read

"BOOM-BOOM".

That's the first sound that I heard when I woke up. My body was vibrating, and I had the feeling like I was shaking, even though I know my body was as still as a statue.

I took a deep breath and relaxed for a moment, before I felt a pressure in my chest, like my heart was about to burst out, each beat making my chest move. Suddenly, I became hot and sweaty, and that’s when the fear set in.

I barely woke up before I fell to the floor ; my feet wouldn’t move, so I decided to crawl.

"Mom" I shouted as loud as I could.

Tears streamed down my face as my breathing quickened. It was overwhelming ; I couldn’t see a thing, couldn’t feel anything, and had no idea what was happening. It felt like the world was spinning around me.

I made a small effort before giving up and lying down on my stomach on the floor. I could finally make out something when I saw a feminine silhouette opening the door, light spilling in and blindind me.

"Help" I whispered

Suddenly, I felt something, or someone, grab my leg firmly and drag me aggressively.

I did not have the time screaming when everything became dark.

That's how I ended up here, in this place. At first, I didn’t understand, but then I saw them : my parents.

They didn’t know I was there, but I could see my mother, crying uncontrollably, touching my body as I lay in an open coffin, while there were a lot of people behind her, sat and sad.

"Im dead" I thought.

Then a gentle hand rested on my shoulder. When I turned to see who it was, I saw only a glowing white humanoid silhouette.

"Do not worry Alice. Everything is going well" they said, their voice a blend of both masculine and feminine tones with an echo behind.

Strangely, their words soothed me, and I was no longer sad.

I stayed there, attending my own funeral. Somehow, I felt happy about it. It was unforgettable, and I could sense it deeply. That’s exactly the kind I would have wanted, and they knew it.

I then, "went back home" as the voice told me.

I’m here in this prairie, living happily with wonderful creatures and my own manor. The weather is perfect every day, and I can eat whatever I want without ever feeling hungry. I can fly, and be whoever I want to be. I never get sleepy or tired, I sleep whenever I choose, I never feel sad, and I have countless friends.

Then, lying in my bedroom, I realized: I am in paradise.
