Summer of 94. Top Story - July 2025. Content Warning.
It was 1994. I had just finished my fourth year of school. I had left on a bit of a high note too. I had won the math contest and was looking forward to the holidays. Most summers we would go on a trip, however this year we were getting our house renovated. We were pretty much confined to the basement and most of the time watching TV or playing Nintendo.

Ending People Pleasing
I have been a people pleaser for longer than I can remember. My grandparents would visit and I sought their approval I would get someone who would sit down and talk to me and I would shower them with gifts. I always struggled to say no. Anybody who has read some of my work knows that I was not really respected by my parents. They denied I had debilitating disabilities that affected me and my behavior. Notably amongst those disabilities is a form of autism. As young as age 4 I heard that I was an embarrassment. Those words alone made me leave childhood and start to feel I was alone and had to fend for myself.

Lawrence Lemieux
Canada is known for some historic and heroic people. We often think of Tommy Douglas-a leader who started the universal healthcare and did extensive work for mental health reform. Who can forget Terry Fox, a young man who raised more awareness and money for cancer than anyone I can think of. His dedication and courage defied science and he ran over 100 marathons back to back with only one good leg. However being from Edmonton, I thought another name was in order. Yes, Edmonton had a history of being The City of Champions wit the likes of Wayne Gretzky, and currently has a star studded hockey team. But the Heroic Goat in my opinion goes to Lawrence Lemieux.
