But What if I Love Her

Love Series

What if I love her like rain on my window at night, slowed and steady, where everything feels alright?

What if I love her like chasing the edge of the sun, driving through gold when the day’s finally done?

What if I love her like arms that I’ve always known, a place in this world that has always felt home?

What if I love her like music that swells up in my chest, front row to beauty, completely possessed?

What if I love her like stars through a telescope’s view, the first time you see something so endless and so true?

What if I love her like the innocent laughter of a child, untouched by the world, unbroken and wild?

What if I love her like autumn that falls all around, crisp in the air as the leaves kiss the ground?

What if I love her and she brings me back to life, turns all my chaos to color, my darkness to light?

What if loving her heals what I never outgrew, like she sends tidal waves over the pain to wash away the tears I once knew?

But what if I love her… and the world disagrees?

If they whisper it’s wrong, if they say we can’t be?

If they try to divide, if they stand at the door and tell me to hide.

Do I silence my heart just to live by fabricated rules, bend to their fear, play it safe like a fool.

Or do I stand in this love, unashamed, unafraid, knowing some things can never be so easily swayed.

Let the world turn away, let them say what they choose,

I have felt what is real, and I know what I’d lose.

So if loving her costs me the comfort of “right,”then I’ll pay it in full, I’ll choose her every time.

Because out of all things this life lets me claim, she is my favorite of all my favorites again and again.

Is it love, love you say, if she cries,…give or take… Because you squeeze her neck to tight, Because holding her hands firmly behind her back, Because lifting her skirt and stripping her of her dignity, while taking her beauty away, Because, shameless and unaccountable you leave her to clean self up in front of eyes of children, neighbours, friends and foes…and her owns! Is it love To take To take and not Give the same self giving back!? All eyes hurt. Hers Of Love The most… . Love should not hurt… Love should not hurt The bellowed!
