The Door That Knocked Back

When curiosity answers, some mysteries refuse to stay silent.

By Waqas AhmadPublished about 13 hours ago 1 min read

Every night at exactly 2:17 AM, Lina heard a knock—three slow, steady taps—echoing through her room. The strange part was, her bedroom had no door. Just a smooth, blank wall where a door should have been.

At first, she blamed her imagination. Old houses creak, she told herself. Pipes make noise. But the knocking came again the next night. And the next. Always at 2:17. Always three taps.

One night, tired of the fear curling in her chest, Lina sat up in bed and whispered, “Who’s there?”

No answer. Just silence.

Her eyes fixed on the wall. Her heart pounded. Slowly, she raised her hand and tapped back—three times.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then came a response.

Three louder knocks. Stronger. Closer.

A faint outline began to glow on the wall, tracing the shape of a door. Lina’s breath caught as a handle appeared, flickering like a reflection in water. It turned with a soft click.

The door creaked open just an inch, spilling pale light into her room. The air turned cold. Lina stepped back, but couldn’t look away.

From the narrow gap, a whisper slipped through.

“You finally answered.”

The light vanished instantly. The wall returned to normal. No door. No handle. Nothing.

Lina stood there, shaking, unsure if it had truly happened.

The next night, at exactly 2:17 AM, the knocking came again.

But this time… it wasn’t just on the wall.

It was right behind her.
