“We Are the Ones…”

“We stayed loyal… even when you chose to leave.”

By Fawad AhmadPublished about 11 hours ago 3 min read

We are the ones…

who stay, even after you leave.

We don’t walk away easily.

We don’t forget quickly.

And we don’t pretend like nothing ever mattered.

You move on like nothing ever happened.

Like we were just a small chapter in your story.

Something temporary… something replaceable.

But for us…

you were never just a chapter.

You were the whole book.

The beginning that gave us hope…

the middle that made us feel alive…

and the ending we never saw coming.

You change.

Slowly… quietly… completely.

At first, it’s small things.

A late reply.

A dry message.

A missing “I miss you.”

Then it becomes something bigger.

You stop sharing your day.

You stop asking about ours.

You stop caring… without saying it out loud.

Your words don’t feel the same anymore.

Your replies get shorter.

Your presence fades…

And one day…

you’re just gone.

No explanation.

No real goodbye.

Just silence… where love used to live.

But we don’t change that easily.

We stay the same…

holding onto every memory

like it still means something to you too.

We replay moments in our heads…

your laugh… your voice… your little habits.

We remember the way you used to look at us

like we were enough.

And we wonder…

when did that change?

You find new people.

New conversations.

New laughter.

New memories… that don’t include us.

And somehow…

you forget the ones who stayed

when you had nothing.

The ones who listened when no one else did.

The ones who chose you… again and again…

even when it wasn’t easy.

While you’re out there living your life,

we are stuck in the past.

Not because we want to…

but because some memories refuse to let go.

They stay.

They echo.

They haunt us in the quiet moments.

Late at night,

when the world goes silent

and distractions fade away…

that’s when everything comes back.

Your voice.

Your words.

Your promises.

We read your old messages again and again,

like they hold answers we never got.

Searching for something… anything…

that explains

how “forever” turned into “goodbye.”

“I’ll always be there for you.”

That’s what you said.

And we believed you.

Not just with our minds…

but with our hearts.

We trusted you in a way

that made us vulnerable…

that made us real.

But the truth is…

you were only there in words.

Never in actions.

And maybe that’s what hurts the most.

Not that you left…

but that you made us believe

you never would.

We are the ones…

who break in silence.

No loud cries.

No dramatic endings.

Just quiet pain…

hidden behind a simple smile.

We learn to laugh again,

to talk normally,

to act like everything is okay.

We show up.

We smile.

We pretend.

But deep inside…

there’s a part of us

that never heals the same way again.

Because some people

don’t just leave your life…

they take a piece of you with them.

A piece you didn’t even realize

you gave away.

And no matter how hard you try,

you can’t get that piece back.

Still…

we don’t hate you.

That’s the strange thing.

We tried to.

We really did.

We tried to forget you.

To move on.

To stop caring.

We told ourselves

you didn’t matter anymore.

But feelings don’t work like that.

Because what we felt was real.

And real things…

don’t disappear overnight.

We could’ve turned cold.

We could’ve become distant.

We could’ve treated others

the way we were treated.

But we didn’t.

Because that’s not who we are.

We are the ones who stay loyal…

even after being left behind.

We are the ones who remember…

even when we’re forgotten.

We are the ones who feel deeply…

in a world that barely feels at all.

And maybe…

that’s our weakness.

Or maybe…

that’s our strength.

Because in a world full of temporary people,

we were real.

We didn’t fake emotions.

We didn’t play games.

We didn’t love halfway.

Our feelings were real.

Our love was real.

Even if it wasn’t enough

for you to stay.

So we move forward… slowly.

Not because we’ve healed…

but because we’ve learned

how to live with the pain.

How to carry it quietly.

How to hide it behind strength.

And maybe one day…

it won’t hurt this much.

Maybe one day…

we’ll smile

and actually mean it.

And maybe…

we’ll meet someone

who doesn’t just say “forever”…

but proves it.

Someone who stays.

Someone who chooses us… every single day.

Until then…

we are the ones…

who stay.
